Luxor Temple, within the centre of Luxor is the temple once known as ‘Ipet-resyt’ or the southern Opet’ which served as a focal point for the Opet festival. The divine image of Amun with his consort Mut and their son Khonsu would journey in their sacred barques from Karnak Temples to the temple at Luxor to celebrate the festival which was held during the inundation Once a year. Luxor Temple is a large Ancient Egyptian temple complex located on the east bank of the Nile River in the city today known as Luxor (ancient Thebes) and was constructed approximately 1400 BCE.

Karnak Temple is the biggest temple complex in the world, covering an area of 100 hectares. Much of it has been restored during the last century and our knowledge of the buildings here in different periods of Egyptian history is still increasing each year. In ancient times, Karnak was known as Ipet-isut. The Karnak Temple Complex, commonly known as Karnak, comprises a vast mix of temples, chapels, pylons. Construction at the complex began during the reign of Senusret I in the Middle Kingdom and perhaps before that and continued until the Ptolemaic period, the temples are built along two axes (east-west and north-south) with the original Middle Kingdom shrines built on a mound in the center of what is now called the Temple of Amun, although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. The area around Karnak was the ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut (The Most Selected of Places) and the main place of worship of the eighteenth dynasty Theban Triad with the god Amun as its head. It is part of the monumental city of Thebes. The Karnak complex gives its name to the nearby, and partly surrounded, modern village of El-Karnak, 2.5 k.M (1.6 miles) north of Luxor.

What to Expect

Our representative will pick you up from your hotel in Luxor to start your half day tour, you will start to the east bank of Luxor to visit the Karnak Temples, the greatest example of worship in history and was dedicated to the God Amon, his wife Mut and their son Khonsu. It was constructed from the beginning of the Middle Kingdom.
After that you will move to Luxor Temple. It was built by Amunhotep III in the 18th Dynasty in the New Kingdom and it was completed by Ramesses II during the 19th Dynasty. King Ramses II was one of the most famous kings in the 19th Dynasty. Ruled Egypt for around 65 years. You will enjoy visiting the Obelisk of Ramses II in front of the first Pylon.
After you finish your visit our representative will transfer you back to your hotel.
